Chris Helvey is a graduate of Spalding
University’s MFA in Writing program.
His short stories, poems and creative
nonfiction works have appeared in
numerous regional and literary
magazines including Kentucky Monthly,
Kentucky Blue, Idiolect, Ace Weekly,
Nugget, The Chapin Journal, Kudzu,
and Modern Mountain Magazine. His
first novel, Purple Adobe, is available
from AuthorHouse (www.authorhouse.
com) and his short story
“Conscientious Objectors” was chosen
for inclusion in Best New Writing 2007.
Chris lives in Frankfort with his wife,
Gina.


Joe Peacock, a recently retired as a
high school English teacher, is an
adjunct professor of composition at
Indiana University Southeast, as well
as a student in Spalding University’s
MFA in Writing program. His writing
credits include a poetry award and two
short story honorable mentions in
Literary Leo, a Louisville alternative
newspaper. Joe has received a Sara
Jean McDowell Award for Fiction from
the University of Louisville and an
award from Gwendolyn Brooks for “A
Superior Work-In-Progress In The
Field Of Poetry.” He has published in
The Mississippi Valley Review, Poetry
Cleveland, Pegasus and numerous
other literary magazines. His novel Zen-
Cat’s Search For Christmas Past will
soon be under review at publishing
houses. Peacock lives in Floyds
Knobs, Ind.

Gayle Hanratty, who was born and raised in Kentucky, is a
writer of short stories, most of which are connected to the  
commonwealth. She has an MFA in writing from Spalding
University and is a member of Spalding’s MFA in writing staff.
Her short story, “Yorkie Mills Hindrance,” received honorable
mention in the 2007 James Still Short Story Contest at Lincoln
Memorial University. Hanratty lives in Louisville.
